MY FAVORITES BY RONNIE GAUBERT

This is a gallery of some of my favorite images. The selection is not based on number of views but on my personal likes. Look here: http://www.pbase.com/ronnie_14187/d100_viewers_favorites for the gallery of images that are popular with the members of pbase. Based on images with 2500+ views. All images taken with a Nikon D100 or D200 DSLR camera. Lens used were: Nikon 24-120mm Non-VR, Nikon 80-200mm ED-IF AF-S, Nikon 105mm Mircro Nikkor, Nikon 300mm f/4d ED-IF AF-S, Nikon 400mm f/2.8d ED-IF AF-I, Nikon 500mm f/4g ED-IF AF-S VRII & Nikon 12-24mm f/4g. A tripod or window mount was used for every image, no exceptions. As a personal preference, all shots of animals were taken in a wild environment, no zoos or butterfly houses. Although some of these images were taken in my many gardens, I still will refer to these as taken in the wild as no cages, traps, etc. were used. All specimens were alive and free to move around as they pleased.

Beautiful work Mr. Ronnie. I found your site b/c I needed to identify a moth that I saw In the Lower Garden District in New Orleans this morning. It took me over an hour of on-line searching to figure out that I had seen a scarlet-bodied wasp moth. Your website helped me to finally nail the I.D. I've lived here 8 years and had never seen one of these little guys before. Your photos are fantastic!!! You have classified them in various categories; I was wondering if there could be a category of 'new additions' for the current year? (Perhaps arranged by the month?) This way your admirers could visit your site every month to look at new photos. Thank you for the wonderful work and the generosity in showing your work intact (i.e. not tarnishing the beautiful scenes by putting your name on the photos, like many artists do).

All of these are so sharp and clear, the composition and backgrounds are simple and without clutter. You certainly have the lenses and equipment but the most important, the eye. Beautiful wildlife photos.

Wow, Ronnie! This collection is superb. I can't say enough about the color and clarity that I consistently see in all the images. I am curious how you are getting so much depth of field in these shots with a 300mm f4 and extension tubes. I would love to be able to see the exif data and know the aperture settings on some of these. Wonderful work! My compliments..... (and yes, if you ever do a workshop, let me know too) Tim

Yeah, it's a bit difficult, even with pbase jaded eyes, to say much. The fact that you said it was NOT based on hits but on your personal favorites, belies no thirst for flattery. However, it is odd when one views something and, even in solace, they intrinsically feel their sense of speech impeded. If you ever do a workshop . . . ;-)
