March 2010

Ron P. Metcalfe hiked to LeConte Lodge via the Alum Cave Bluff Trail. Above the halfway point, probably 85% of the trail was snow covered, but passable. Below the Upper Steps, the snow was slusy, but above it was cruncy in the morning, and a bit slushy in the afternoon. I used a pair of YakTrax for most of the upper 1/4 of the trail. Extremely varying weather conditions over the next five days, so it may get better or it might get worse.
