I was impressed by this country as well... I crossed the border via Taba. I went to Cairo by train, where I stayed for about 6 days. The stay was a bit longer than planned, as I had to get a new passport to be able to go to Jordan (they stamped my previous passport in Israel).
Cairo was great... I did things such as eating grilled corn from the streets to having almost like a fight in the market because of exchanging something I had bought that I did not like... I even got the police involved, but after doing it, I never came back to that market (Khan el-Khalili)... I jumped into a one of those crowded buses and disappeared into the city... it was scary.
From the great experience of the Pyramids in Giza and Saqqara, I took the train to Luxor. I visited the temples by bicycle... the sunset at the Nile is also amazing...
From Luxor I took the bus to Hurgada. I was so impressed by the color of the water, the life underwater, the corals, the fishes... it was the first time I saw so many colorful fishes, dolphins, sharks, etc...
The biggest mistake the student here did was to catch a bus to go to Sharm el Sheik (from Hurgada) instead of a ferry. It took me the whole night and half a day to go all the way to the north of the Sinai, and then south to the tip of it, and again up to Sharm el Sheik... And this Arab televison the whole time in the bus, so loud... I regreted so much!
The Dolphins were actually in Sharm el Sheik... Deeper reefs, different from Hurgada.
From Egypt, the trip continued to Jordan...
