Petrified Tree, Yellowstone National Park

Fodor's Review of the tree is as follows:

If you enjoy seeing bears in zoo pens, you'll get the same level of satisfaction as you look at this geological landmark surrounded on all four sides by high wrought-iron gates. Unfortunately, a century of vandalism has forced park officials to completely enclose this 45-million-year-old redwood tree—utterly ruining the experience.

I would like to think that the park service is trying to keep the tree from escaping and visiting other trees. The tree has not moved since I was last here.
