Looking up Main St., taken after dinner with my Playbook, towards where The Empire Hotel stood (at the stop light). The Empire hotel was erected in 1947 and was once a popular Hotel. It was eventually converted to an apartment building and, until 2009, housed up to 100 tenants in 52 rooms. On October 8, 2009 the hotel caught fire causing water and smoke damage that was estimated at $5 to $6 million. The hotel was torn down. The basement was filled with the bricks from the former hotel and then covered with fill. The site currently remains empty.

I spent a good many hours there during the summers of 1970 and 1971.
