Gordon Hill, owner of Limberlost Lodge purchased the property in the late 20’s or early 30’s. He constructed several log cabins and used them as a stopover for his guests when they were riding. Gordon Hill was also responsible for the name Interlaken.
In 1941 the Royal Norwegian Air Force took over the property and named it Vesle Skaugum. A new building was constructed with the same architecture as the Norwegian Crown Prince Olaf’s summer home in Norway. The Norwegian Air Force used this land as a rest and training camp outside their war-torn country.
In 1945, after the war, the Kiwanis Clubs of Toronto bought the property and used it as an underprivileged children’s camp.
In 1979 the present owners purchased the land and converted it into a sports camp (Camp Olympia).
I worked here during the summers of 1970 and 1971 when it was Camp Kiwanis.
