Photos from the 12th National Lion Dance Championships 2006 at Ngee Ann City, Singapore. Not your normal 'picking the greens' Lion Dance seen on Chinese New Year. These troupes are up on poles battling it out for the No. 1 spot. The Lion Dance should not be confused with the Chinese Dragon Dance, which features a team of ten or more dancers. The Lion Dance consists of two people at one time. Want to know more about LION Dance? Read the Wiki.
The event was held outdoors at night under artificial lighting. My choice of equipment: Canon EOS 30D and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS mounted on a Gitzo MonoTrek monopod with a Bogen (Manfrotto) Ballhead. In order to have shutter speeds fast enough to catch the action, I was forced to use ISO 1600 and ISO 3200. Raw files were processed using Bibble Pro with built-in Noise Ninja.
