Pacific Hornero

Jurong Birdpark, Singapore

Scientific name: Furnarius leucopus cinnamomeus (Lesson, 1884).

The Pacific Hornero is found only in Equador and Peru. This species is thought to have split from Furnarius leucopus. Horneros are often seen on the ground collecting mud or dung to
build their remarkable nests. These look like miniature versions of the type of oven (or "horno") that you see outside many houses in rural South America. Hence the name
"Ovenbirds" in English and "Hornero", the Spanish for "baker".
