Scott Drega's 92 Spirit R/T Wrecked 06/07/06

I was driving home from work today on Yellow Springs Road, a two lane road. I took the R/T out because it was a nice day. I'm not sure yet if that was a bad idea or not, because I wonder if I was in one my Neons whether I'd be sitting here typing this or in the morgue.

I was cruising along doing the speed limit. All of a sudden, a gold Chrysler Town & Country swerved 1/2 to 3/4 of the way into my lane. I somehow swerved to the right just enough that the van bounced off the side of the R/T. It then bounced off the side of the truck in front of it that it has swerved to keep from rear ending. I looked in my rear view mirror to see the van roll over at least three times. I'm guessing it was going pretty fast to have rolled over that many times. I then proceeded to sit in my car screaming at the top of my lungs, having quite unpleasant flashbacks to the time 10 years ago when the pedestrian high on marijuana stepped out in front of my Daytona Shelby.

Once I got myself together I got out of the car. Thankfully save for a pretty deep gash on my left arm I'm fine. I walked away. As upset and shaken as I am, that in the grand scheme of things is all that matters. I keep having to remind myself of that. I don't know how the passengers in the van are or how many were in the van. The medi-vac copter came and took one person away. Thankfully they did not have to cut the van open, so I'm hoping the van passengers were ok.

As for the R/T, I am hopeful it is going to live to see another day. I was able to swerve just enough to avoid getting hit head on, thank god. The driver's door is pretty mangled. But the roof isn't buckled. Despite the driver's door being a mess, the A-pillar seems to be ok. The fender is crunched enough that the hood won't open. But I don't think the frame is bent, and if it is tweaked, I don't think it is tweaked enough that it can't be put on a frame machine and tweaked back into place. The fender more or less got smushed, I don't think it was moved a great deal. Of course the challenge as always will be working with the insurance company to fix the car. Right now the car is sitting at my house, I couldn't bear the thought of it sitting at some storage lot, especially with the driver's door not be able to be opened and the window won't close all the way. Dave Stokes' dad (he owns the red 92/93 super gas Daytona that ran at Mason-Dixon) towed me home, so it was nice to talk cars with him and be somewhat distracted for a little bit.

Anyway, sorry to ramble on. I just needed to sit here and type this out as some kind of therapy. Hopefully full feeling will return to my legs soon, I'm still in a bit of shock, but I walked away and in the end that's all I can ask for.
