The 1991 IMSA Championship Winning Dodge Daytona.

The first DODGE to be brought into the SANCHEZ MOTORSPORT stable is the 1991 IMSA Championship Winning Dodge Daytona. It was brought into the stable at the begining of the 2007 season.

Our Daytona is the car that Dorsey Schroeder and John Fergus campaigned in the 1989-1992 Imsa Championship.
John one of the current SCCA National Champions won the IMSA championship in 1992 racing the little NON- turbo Daytona against Nissans and Porsche. However right after the last race the Championship winning DODGE was immediately retired, put on display at the Delmar ,California museum and never raced again until we ran it this year.
It just sat for over 15 years while everyone looked at it in a museum. What a shame.
Luckily we brought it back to life to start the 2007 season.
Before you say this car must have outdated technology versus current 2008, let me say nothing could be further from the truth. This Mopar was well ahead of its time.
Let's start with the internal adjustments built into the car.
Everything is dash adjustable, including the front swaybar, rear swaybar, brake bias, emu , and even all four shocks all by simply turning a knob.
It sure does dialing in a race car pretty easy.
In addition it has a rear mounted formula type clutchless shifting Hewland which allows moving the driver inboard by 4 inches and the Maserati motor over to the passenger side also by 4 inches.
Conventional mounted gearboxes force engineers to place the driver on the left side of the car, not so good for balance . Not in this Dodge Daytona.
The racer is almost mid-mounted since there is no gearbox in the cockpit.
So what you say ? All these engineering marvels make the car perfectly balanced front to back and left to right with the driver in the seat and half a load of fuel.
This little carbon fiber wonder weighs in @ exactly 2000 lbs. with me and half a load of 112 octane fuel . You got it. One thousand pounds in the front versus rear or left side versus the right side.
Just like a highly sophisticated open wheel formula car.
In addition the car has adjustable ground effects under the nose splitter and under the rear deck and this aero package coupled with a serious topside wing make this car literally corner like its on rails. Pretty nice little suspension package.
The powerplant is a highly modified version of the 16 valve DOHC Maserati motor.
Sorry can't divulge the true horsepower numbers at the rear wheels.
Let's just say its very competitive.
Pretty good power to weight ratio and the engineering that allows early power feed, just makes it a lot of fun for someone that has raced over 50 race cars in the last 37 years.
We ran this car three times this summer. It won every race and even started one race in 30th place. Throughout its maiden season It managed to break the SCCA track record at Summit Point by almost 4 seconds in the SPU class. (SUPER PRODUCTION UNDER 2500 CC= no rules just keep it under 2500cc) and it did it with a motor that has sat in the chassis since its last race in 1992 !!
I want to believe it was happy to be rescued and brought back to what it does best ===
Kick MOPAR @$$..........
What do you think?

We have accumulated a lot of parts including three complete motors.
If you or your forum contacts know where there are more parts let me know we would be very grateful.
Our race crews are all volunteers and we are always looking for those few that are Dodge diehards or just racers.
If any one is interested have them contact us through our webmaster
