My bro is a mechanic with his own business and he has a good friend (salesman) at a local yard…they only sell low-miles parts like clips or engines, etc. High quality stuff. Our salesman friend calls my bro one day trying to explain something about a 4-cylinder R/T knowing I like that stuff. Well my bro calls ME trying to explain the same thing…best I could guess was that the guy had a T-III motor he wanted to get rid of. So I in turn called the salesman at the yard and he explained to me that the fella had indeed wanted to get rid of his white ’91 Spirit R/T with a broken engine. The wrecker was on the way to pick it up, so I asked my salesman friend to hold off and to give me directions to go see the car myself. My wife and I were eating lunch with our 4 kids while all this is happening, so we hurried to finish lunch and drove to go see the car. It sure was a white ’91 Spirit R/T in what seemed like great shape and 100% intact. It was parked in an apartment complex lot and funny thing is I’d never seen a white Spirit R/T in Louisiana ever…turns out the original owner had just moved down from Arkansas and the car broke on him again. I was on the ground under the car looking for leaks (bone-dry) when the owner came out and asked if the yard salesman had sent me. I said, yes, and asked if I could spin the engine over. He said it wouldn’t start and the engine was broke, but could try myself. It had the classic broken-timing-belt-high-speed-turnover symptoms. I offered him the same $200 the yard had offered him. 20mins later we were at the license/plate place to register the car in my name. From start to finish the whole ordeal took ~2hrs and cost me a total of $250 and change!!! A timing belt was all it needed to be streetable and runs like a champ. Presently has 96k miles on the clock. (1/1/07)
