These first few images are of a WW I German cemetery with nearly 8,000 graves, in the countryside near Abaucourt, on the road between Verdun and Etain. There's nothing else around this cemetery except farmland. It's a rather strange sight, seeing this German cemetery in the middle of French fields and pastures. This part of France is full of them. All German military cemeteries use iron crosses and are always full of shade trees. In this cemetery, there are four graves per cross, two on each side. In addition, along the walls of the cemetery, there are mass graves containing all the unknown soldiers.
