Arnold R Castro 29-Apr-2012 18:22
Thank you for the great work of bringing a historical perspective to a period of time affecting our younger years. My name is Arnold R Castro. I was stationed at the 42nd Field Hospital in Verdun France, from 1958 to 1960. I was a medical laboratory technician with specialty in Blood Banking. I wish to know about the existence of any of the hospital personnel of that period, especially Lt. Coronel Peak my immediate supervisor.

I am looking for Wayne Canada who was stationed at Verdun Signal/General Depot in 1954 and in 1955. He was a two stripper and was in the Motor Pool at Gribeauval very close to Maginot. My mom tells me that he slept at Maginot but worked at Gribeauval.

My name is Francois Panich My email is: fp@ebusinessstaffing.com or my phone number is: 817-329-0003 I would appreciate any information about Wayne. Thank you. Francois
Frank Milano Jr 04-Jul-2011 18:24
Hello Mr Mc Bee My name is Frank Milano I was Stationed at Trois Fontaines Ammo Depot
From Feb 1959 to JULY 1963.I WAS ASSIIGNED TO THE Motor Pool.I drove a truck in the Depot for about a year. As time went on i finally drove a staff car for post headquarters. I did that most of the time after that.I also got to drive for the commanding General at Verdun that was temporary until his regular driver could transfer
from Italy. Who was his his driver when he was the post commander there. I started dating
a french girl who worked at the PX. We eventually got married and are still married today . We just celebrated our 50 th wedding anniversity.
Jerry D. Arriola 06-Feb-2011 14:54
My name is Jerry D. Arriola. I was stationed at the 56th General Hospital in Verdun, France with the 591st Ambulance company 1966 thru June 1967. I was one of the last 15 guys to leave France when we were kicked out of France. I remember we had to leave and not wear our uniforms. I was dicharged in Fort Dix, N.J. after returning to the States. I was so glad to be back on American soil. Viet Nam was really hot and heavy then, being a medic, I was surprised that I wasn't sent there? Alot of my friends did go and didn't return. So sad. If anyone was there during the time I was stationed there, I would like to chat and catch on some of the times and experiences from that time. I can be contacted via email at jerryarriola@yahoo.com .

Iam looking for information regarding the ammunition depot named for the Trois Fontaines Forest in Eastern France from the early 1950's to 1968, I believe.
The nearby town of Sermaize-les-Bains, where many civilian workers and military families resided,is interested in develping a history of that American/NATO base to be included in its web page: www.ville-sermaize-les-bains.fr/
Any lead for information would be appreciated.

Another great site: www.webspawner.com/users/tfrobal for those at Trois Fontaines TFOD/TFAD near Bar le duc France, or other camps in the area.

The site was set up by Alain Baubat, a Frenchman who loved what the Americans had done for France in WW1 & WW2. It's great, any stationed in France will appreciate how well he covered so much, and so well.

I'm from Connecticut, and now live in Ormond Beach, Fl. 32176

I'm writing this on behalf of my father, Herbert Kabinoff. He's a bit of a luddite, but I'm his daughter the computer geek. My father was stationed at Sidi Brahim Caserne Etain from 54-57 - there are some people around here that overlapped with my fathers service dates, particularly Bob Walker (of whom my father just found a letter from June of 1957 to him). My father would LOVE to hear from anyone he served with. Please feel free to contact him at his e-mail address - hjkabinoff@gmail.com

He is thoroughly enjoying coming across old friends and old people he served with. He just got in touch with Charlie Fillmore today, so he's ecstatic and nostalgic!

I was stationed at Sidi Brahim Caserne Etain from June 1957 thru December 1958.

the exchange rate was never better.

I first posted a message on your site in 2007. Since then, I often look at your site and enjoy the many comments by fellow servicemen and women and their families.
While we were there, most of us probably didn't realize the imapact on our lives that our tours of duty in France would have.
On behalf of myself and many of the Veterans of Etain and Verdun we thank you for your wonderful site and the memories that it rekindles.
Your site provides a service to us that we truly appreciacte. Thank You!

I still remember the Air Force Base jus 12 miles from Verdun. I played the organ at the Air Force Base on Sunday mornings. Charles passed away in 2001. Jeanette Spaw Wife of Charles R. Spaw

I like your images of Verdun. Our caravan club is planning a rally there in 2010 and I was wondering if I could use a few of your images for an advert that would be placed in the members only area of our wesite.

The copyright would of course be acknowledeged and I would happily put a link to your website.

Best wishes,

McBee...thank you for putting together this site. I was stationed at Trois Fontaines (TFOD) outside of Bar-le-Duc from 12/58 until 6/60. My best buddy Calvin Vinson and I are the only personnel from that date who have managed to stay in touch. I worked in the Controllers Dept., and was the only military person. I made many friends with the French civilians, and would love to connect with them. Unfortunately, to date Calvin and I have been unable to return to France, but we both keep the dream alive. I would love to communicate with anyone at TFOD during my tour of duty. Thanks again for a great site.
By the way, while in the service, I lived in East Orange, NJ. I have been residing in St. Petersburg, Florida for 3 1/2 years now.

Ed, I believe the memorial you're talking about is at the top of the staircase shown in the first few photos of this gallery:

http://www.pbase.com/rmcbee/02fr

The memorial is near the waterfront on the Quay de Londres in Verdun. You'll see that I took a few photos from the top of that staircase, showing the quay down below. My Dad and I went inside the memorial and saw the record books you mentioned.

Mr./Ms. McBee:
I'm not sure if my original message went through so I thought I would register and then send another message. My father's name was Donald R. Wate, and he was stationed in Verdun, France from 1961 to 1964, and during that tour I was born. These pictures are so very wonderful. I do not remember what Verdun looks like as I was just a baby when we left. It has been my dream to return to see it one day, and now since I've seen these pictures, I know I must do all I can to return and see it. Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful pictures, it means a lot to me, and probably many other people who were born there as well. Please, if anyone wishes to contact our family, please feel free to e-mail me.

Hi,

it's nice to see my hometown (Antwerp) through the eyes of a tourist. I read you travelled by car from Holland through Belgium and made some pit stops. Many Americans enter Antwerp with a cuiseship which docks nearby the "old" part of the city. I lived near the Cathedral for several years, in an authentic house from 1614. As you say, many nice restaurants, cafés, places to see...

Glad you liked it,
cheers,
Danny

Great pix. Jawdropping in fact. You have a real knack for taking great pictures too. Maybe it's just because I've never seen anything like the buildings and landscape in Europe. But you have a way of making "water" look amazing. lol!! Thanks for sharing!

Great photos of an area I knew well. I was stationed with the 97th Engineer Bn. in Verdun and Etain during late 1959 to early 1962. When your dad's outfit, the 249th returned to Germany in '61 we took over working on the spur line. In fact and unless I remember it wrong, he lived in barracks right across the street from us on Etain Air Force Base during the project. I met a guy in the 249th from Denver like me and we became friends. He also suffered a badly damaged foot when he accidently drove an ax through it while on the job (long story). Yes, lots of memories. Thanks for the photos.

Russ,

I was reading our church newsletter (Rutherford Mem.United Methodist), and found out about your site. I know your Mom and Dad, and I grew up in Corryton. I have lived in Nashville for the past 19 years. You are such a wonderful photographer and viewing your pictures makes me feel as if I am in each place. You certainly have a great talent! Thanks for such a wonderful website!

How wonderful! I am so jealous of the web site! The photos are fabulous, and what a great job you've done on the web site.

Tom and I leave Monday for Amsterdam. We are taking a river boat cruise down the Rhine through Germany and then the Danube through Austria ending at Budapest. Heidelberg is one of the places we will be visiting, so I paid particular attention to those pictures. I wish I could do a web site of my photos, but will probably just do a low tech photo album.

It was wonderful to hear from you. Email me and catch me up on what you've been doing (besides globe-trotting) these days.

Valerie
