One beautiful day in Zermatt, I decided to take a series of gondolas up to the summit of the Klein Matterhorn, anticipating some spectacular views. Unfortunately, the only cloud in Switzerland that day was attached to the summit of this mountain. I spent several hours in the pea soup of the summit, waiting for the clouds to clear. They never did. Even though "Klein" means "little" in German, the summit of this mountain is almost 13,000 feet above sea level. For the first time in my life, I experienced oxygen deprivation. It's an unpleasant experience. However, the brief, fleeting views of the valleys below were worth it.
