The town of Zermatt sits at the base of the Matterhorn, in the Valais district of southwestern Switzerland. It's at an elevation of about 5,000 feet, with the Matterhorn towering almost another 10,000 feet above it. Zermatt allows no cars in the town; I had to park in the nearby town of Taesch and take a taxi to the edge of Zermatt. Even though it was full of people, the town was peaceful, quiet, and spotless. When the weather cooperated, the views were spectacular.
