Wing Comander James Francis "Stocky" Edwards, CM, DFC & Bar, DFM, CD

Wing Commander Edwards (born: 1921-June-5, enlisted in RCAF:1940-October-21, and retired: 1972) was Canada's highest scoring Ace in the Western Dessert Campaigne (and the third highest scoring Ace in the RCAF) with at least 18 confrmed kills (including 2-shared) and also 12 aircraft were destroyed on the ground. During his distinguished career with the RCAF, Edwards flew Kittyhawks, Spitfires, Vampires, Sabres and CF-100s.

During an Open Hoduse at Vintage Wings of Canada on 2009-September-19, Stocky Edwards was invited to fly with Dave Hadfield (brother of Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield) in the Vintage Wings' Curtiss P40 Kittyhawk, an airplane that Stocky made very effective use of during the Desert Campaign of World War II. To honour Edwards, the Vintage Wings' P-40 Kittyhawk is painted in desert colours and was given the markings of Stocky's 260 Squadron original aircraft.
