Just over the mountain from Sunset Crater the terraine changes and there is little evidence of the erruption that occurred close by. There are ruins depicting the lives of ancient ancestors of the Hopi Indians. These people lived a hard life in the dessert somewhere between 1000 AD and 1200 AD. The two monuments are so close that one entrance fee covers both.
