Bogor Botanical Gardens - Kebun Raya – Indonesia 2018
The Bogor Botanical Gardens, known as Kebun Raya (Great Gardens), are at the heart of the Indonesian city of Bogor, about 50kms south of Jakarta. The gardens were opened by the Dutch in 1817 to help research and develop crops such as tea, cassava and tobacco and the park is still a major centre for botanical research in Indonesia. The gardens are spread over an area of about 80 hectares and contain over 15,000 species of trees and plants, including 400 types of palm.
The presidential palace (Istana Bogor) is located on the edge of the park. The palace lies in grassed parkland with deer and a lake.
