Of course this is just a 'copy' for the web and no one in their right mind would alter the original? As it happens I do maybe apply a little to much sharpening to my web images though the ones I'd keep for printing get little or no sharpening. I tend to be a little 'one setting does all' for web images but sharpen each image as I see fit, it at all for printing? I think what you see around the birds is as you say excessive sharpening but also artifacts from compressing the image maybe? Can assure you the original (both out of camera and edited) displays nothing around the birds except blue sky. I would hope these shots look good on a computer monitor but enlarged would show problems - imo it discourages unauthorised use of my images?
Thxs for stopping by and glad you enjoyed the rest of the gallery (nice if you could leave a contact address??)! Funnily this is one of the images I thought twice about posting ... not really one of my favourites if you see what I mean?

I agree with the other's comments but in my opinion, I think that this sensational image has been ruined by excessive sharpness (you can see the white halo around the birds). I hope this has been done only to this web copy not to the original! (I saw the largest version).
I believe that sharpness must be applied always with caution because it tends to flatten the depth of the image by decreasing the perceived distance of distant objects (that naturally have smoother edges).
I enjoyed the gallery! Thanx for sharing, have a good time!
