Hi John,
I checked film in the pbase serch feature and came across your wonderful galleries. Like you I occasionally run a roll or two in my Maxxum 9 but mostly shoot digi these days.
Your galleries have a clean, breezy look and I love your pictures. I'll return for more detailed looks soon.
Best,
Vince B.

What is the answer to the question about the stillborn lamb and whether an ewe will accept a "replacement"?

hi-
Great photos, have been enjoying them! Was wondering how you like the Sigma macro, looking into getting one for my Nikon D70s...
also, maybe as a frequent user of the D70 you might now this- I keep getting a histogram displayed on my monitor, would you know what causes that- and how to get rid of it? I've been searching high and low for an answer-
Thank you!

incredible, I'm so pleased to see such spectacular shots. Gannets are one of my favorite birds, I get to see them in the spring and fall here in New Jersey as the migrate to and from. Thanks so much for these!

John,

I just discovered your full gallery on lamb birthing. I left a note there, but since it is an old gallery, I didn't know if you get notified of new posts, hence this message. Question: Is it true (as I think I saw on PBS or Animal Planet or some such place) that a ewe (or is that "an ewe") who's had a stillborn lamb can be convinced to accept the lamb of another ewe (e.g., one which has itself died) by enveloping the lamb in the skin/pelt of the ewe's own (dead) lamb? Have you ever done that?

As I've said before, I look forward to your photos every day.

dds

p.s. My border collie, Airlie, says she'd like to meet your sheep. :)

I'm going through withdrawal! Where are your pictures from May 7th and forward? Is this lambing season? Hope to see new pictures soon. You do a wonderful job. I visited your fair isle for three weeks in 1996 and your pictures make me homesick. Keep up the good work.

John,
Great images and very nice galleries! Thanks for sharing.

John,

I only stumbled across pbase yesterday and your photos this evening. Your photos are simply wonderful. I have a ten year old border collie, and she and I spent this morning harassing sheep. I adopted her at two years (from a family who tired of her herding all the kids into closets - honest!). Despite her never having seen a sheep since she was a put, she has turned out to be a natural with the sheep. Your photos make me want even more to get out of suburbia (just north of Washington, DC) and find a sheep farm where both my dog and I could keep ourselves busy.

After a long hiatis I've finally returned to my old passion (photography), and I just bought a Nikon D70 (after a series of Olympus digicams -- most bought just before price drops). Now I am looking everywhere for photos and other resources that can help make me more than an old hack. Your galleries and others on pbase (those I've seen so far) are true inspiration. Time for me to join and start a photo-a-day project.

Now, if I just had a tractor so I could try out *my* remote.

Hello John
I don't know why it's takenme so long to stumble across your gallery but I have this evening and I just wanted to say that your photography is stunning. I shall be sure to browse you PoTD site now on a regular basis. A real inspiration for a fellow, much less talented photographer. Wonderful photography.

Cheers TJ

I just stumbled upon this website while looking at digital camera reviews and found your galleries. I spent three weeks in England and Scotland in 1996 and didn't want to come back to my home in the Northwest corner of the United States! I also loved James Herriott's books, so I LOVE your pictures. I am a rhododendron fanatic (which is why I was in the UK in 1996), and take many pix of morning dew on flowers with the sun shining through the petals. Keep up the good work!

Hi John. I realized I never signed in to your guesbook, and as a very frequent traveler here on your pages, I feel I must! I love your photos, they always show something of interest or beauty. Your farm shots are gorgeous, the animals pics are my favorites, but your flowers are also always brilliant. Having started this PAD project days apart, I have really enjoyed watching your gallery!! And who would have thought I'd make such lovely friends as you and Jayne! Hope to meet up in person someday, you are always welcome in San Francisco!! ~jeanne

I love your photos. A wonderful touch of
"homey and comfortable" about them. I have a female very
much like your Rusty. She is now 14 yrs old and
tri-color, but taking on a bit of grey.
The most intellegent dog I've ever
owned.
