Biker Bash - Labor Day Weekend, 2009 - Granbury, Texas
On Labor Day weekend, 2009, the historical, small town of Granbury, Texas hosted the 1st Annual Biker Bash of Texas. This event was organized by the Warriors For Christ Fellowship, a local prison and motorcyle ministry, led by David and Lesa Kimbrow. It was an unusual event that brought together born again Christian bikers and ex-convicts from all over the country for a three day celebration of faith, fellowship, and especially, motorcycles.
This event was held the past few years in Granbury under the name of Thunder Over Texas, organized by the Jerry Savelle ministries. The Savelle Ministries passed the baton to the Warriors For Chrsit Fellowship and this year's event was given the new name of The Biker Bash.
The downtown area of Granbury was transformed into an eclectic mixture of rare and unusual motorcycles, live musical acts, and various food and merchandise vendors who cater to the Christian motorcyle lifestyle. There were many events planned for Saturday and Sunday, including a judged bike show and hot rod show, daily scenic bike rides, and a Sunday morning service held in Shanley Park. Many motivational speakers were sheduled to appear as well as regional and nationally known Christian music acts, headlined by The Sons of Thunder, one of the biggest Christian hard rock bands in Texas. There was also a motivational tight rope act by Tino Walenda and a sky diving demonstration by Wayne Keese.
Daivd Kimbrow is a very charasmatic speaker and gave a Sunday morning sermon that focused on the ability of people to change their destructive ways and find the right path to salvation. Towards the end of his sermon, many people came down to the front of the stage to be "saved". After the Sunday morning service, one of the highlights of the day occured during the morning scenic bike run, when the bikers stopped at the construction site of Veteran Falls. Veteran Falls is an unusual and beautiful park that was designed by Robert Stapleton and is currently under construction. The park honors all the veterans of the country's armed forces. It was an extremely emotional moment as Mr. Stapleton explained the puropose of the park and thanked the bikers for visiting and donating money to the project.
The event drew thousands of people from all over the country and was a huge success. Late Sunday evening, David and Lesa Kimbrow took to the main stage in Shanley Park and thanked those who attended and promised an even bigger and better Biker Bash in 2010.
