Hurricane Rita Evacuation: Waiting for Gas

This is Huntsville Texas, along the I-45 north evacuation route. Gas is sparse and many cars are stranded along the highway. People are waitng for 4 hours or more in line with bottles, coolers, buckets, milk contatiners and anything that holds liquid just to get some gas. I-45 is northbound in all lanes.

Great shots... I got to experience this on Beltway 8 and IH-10. 28 hours to get from Friendswood to San Antonio!!!! Unfortunately, my camera was packed under so much stuff, I only got a few shots outside Columbus, TX.... Let's hope we never have to go through this again!

It's wonderful to see that people care enough about their lives as well as others, enough to withstand adversity and trudge ahead... Maybe our government, local and federal, can learn something from these people... Thanks for keeping it real!!

Excellent coverage of such chaos. Some of your images look like scenes from the movie "War of the Worlds", unfortunatley, this is real.

Keep posting those images! I am sure we all appreciate the insight into whats going on. I can't even imagine the mayhem that everyone is going through with 100 mile traffic jams. Then again, I live on an island and when we get hit by hurricanes, we have nowhere to go.
