One of the Chemainus murals.Thousands of people each year flock to this oceanside town to see these.They have made an industry of it....saved their town from dying after the mining,fishing and forestry jobs began to slow down.The 1983 closer of the lumber mill almost turned Chemainus into a ghost town,being the main employer.The forward thinking people of Chemainus decided to try something new.Local and international artists were invited to present submissions and soon murals...dozens of them....some over 70 feet began popping up.A whole arts industry formed from this and now Chemainus appears to be a thriving art community.
