Every October a festival is held in this area celebrating the return of the sockeye salmon to the place of their birth 4 years earlier.Every year some salmon return but every 4th year the migration is much larger and this year 2010 is to set a record.Over 8 million sockeye are expected this year to come and lay their eggs(spawning)which the male will fertilize, allowing this life cycle to continue. The male and female turn a crimson red on their journey back from the Pacific Ocean from their normal grey blue color. They die within 10 days of laying their eggs.

This is the first year I have witnessed this amazing event but I wasn't alone .....hundreds of thousands of people from around the world have flocked here this year due to the fact that this years migration will set a record many times more than the usual migration.
The rivers are red with sockeye and the banks and eddies are covered with dead fish.
My friend and fellow PBaser Ron was with me on this adventure as we explored not only the Adams River but many smaller rivers in the area.
We spent 4 busy days travelling all together in order to accomplish this shoot, stopping along the way to record some of the beauty around us.A photographers dream trip.Never more true was the saying"It's not the destination but the journey".
Please come along and join us as this gallery unfolds.
