I don't remember ever attending the parade before. We took our two young neices and we all really enjoyed it.So much color and lots of interesting characters. If you enjoy street photography like I do,this is a great type of event to attend.
The Calgary Stampede celebrated their 100th anniversary last summer and they are known for their cowboy theme and world class rodeo.Edmonton had a theme called Klondike Days, celebrating Edmonton as the gateway to the gold rush in the late 1800's.We used to dress up in Klondike attire....natty brocaded vests, bowler hats....anything of that era. Then for some inane reason, the organizers decided to go away from the Klondike theme and it became just a 10 day fair with amusement rides....and the attendance began to wane. They have now adopted the name K Days and leave it to the public to decide what the K is to stand for.Calgary, our rival, can teach us a thing or two about how to put on a 10 day fair!
Anywayyyyy.....we enjoyed the parade!
It's a shame that the "original" idea has been pushed aside but maybe it'll return. They do say "what goes around, comes around" after all. In the meantime it looks as though everyone had a really good time! v.
Very nice coverage and write up, seems like all to quickly our Heritage is eliminated in favor of simplicity, K Day sounds like one of those coffee cups for single servings of coffee... Quick easy and disposable... Hang in there Rick, put your hat on anyway!! V
