The Brier is men's curling's big event of the year in Canada.Top teams represent each province and territory in the hopes of winning this prestigious event, this year held in Calgary,Alberta at The Pengrowth Saddledome, home of the Calgary Flames NHL hockey team.Provincial and territorial teams play off against each other to see who will represent them at the Brier. The event runs from March 7-15th with 3 draws daily involving all the teams.Draws start at 8:30 a.m. on 4 sheets of ice.The next draw is at 1 p.m. and the final draw of the day is at 6 p.m.If you get TSN Sports Network, all the events are broadcast live.
I am a recent fan of curling,a sport until recently I thought was about as exciting as watching paint dry.If you sit and watch it,especially at this professional level, you realize how much strategy is involved in making these most difficult shots.
We attended the opening day and the second day of this event. Our local Alberta team has been flawless and has won it's first 9 events so far,the only team to be undefeated, led by Kevin Martin, undoubtedly Canada's best curler right now.
