Barnacle Patterns

These are photos of a pole nearly covered with Pelagic Gooseneck Barnacles that had washed onto a beach along the central Oregon coast. The barnacles' biological name is Lepus anatifera. They are found at mid latitudes in nearly all of the world's oceans. They attach themselves to flotsam and usually spend their lives without touching land. Not long after the pole washed ashore waves began rolling the log back and forth crushing the shells.
