Driving like mad to get to this lake for sunset, I had only a few minutes on arrival to set up and capture the shot before the sun was lost on the left bank. I had been hoping, looking at a map, that I would have got less in shadow, but I instantly realised that having the right hand forested bank in shadow created great contrast in addition to the symmetry.
The piles provided the symmetry break I was looking for, plus added a much needed focal point. I considered fill flashing these to increase the detail, but instead left them a natural black.
The real bonus was the sky, for the symmetry complemented the strong triangles created from the land.
All in all well worth a 30Km dash at breakneck speeds to get just a few minutes to capture the shot of the day.
