Eastlake front lock

Eastlake front lock

I love this lockset, which I bought at a Seattle building salvage store. It says "patent pending 1885" on the lock, so it was probably made sometime in the late 19th century. When I saw it in the store I was immediately captivated by the intricate geometric designs characteristic of the Eastlake style. What I love about Eastlake is that though it comes during the late Victorian era & has some of the intricacy & elaboration characteristic of Victorian style--Eastlake is clean, elegant & not overly embellished (as much Victoriana can be). I bought it because I had to have it. But I was worried that it would overpower the simple Craftsman style of the door we had just installed. On viewing, I think it looks very nice.
