While attending a meeting at nearby Reisenberg castle, we visited the nearby town of Günzberg, located in Bavaria. The town is picturesque and steeped in history, with both famous and infamous native sons. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Günzburg). Walking around town on a rainy Sunday morning in November, I came across a strange procession; a group of musicians leading a number of somber citizens on the way to church. Due to the strenuous efforts of the costumed concertmaster, the music was quite good in the oom-pah-pah style but a bit militaristic to my taste, and the many people in uniform made me wonder about the militaristic past of the town, as well as about whether the concept of separation of church and state has made it to this section of Germany.
