Thursday February 11
The Roland Park community seems to be taking round 2 in stride. Perhaps this was due to the slightly lighter snowfall than round 1, both in terms of amount and wetness of the snow. Perhaps it was the sunny day. Perhaps it was due the hope that our ordeal might finally be over. In any case, members of the Roland Park Community appeared to be taking it all in stride. Particular thanks go to community members who helped their neighbors who found themselves without electrical power. Thanks also to the many individuals who helped shovel their neighbors out. I was particularly impressed by the young people who traveled the area carrying shovels willing to help out their elders.
Local Institutions also did a much better job of clearing their sidewalks, particularly in the area south of Northern Parkway. Thanks to the merchants on Cold Spring Lane and Tuxedo, as well as to Gilman School, Roland Park Public School, and Roland Park Country School for doing a good job with their sidewalks. I am also told that particular thanks should to Roland Park Country School for making their parking lot available to employees of nearby stores.
As of Thursday evening, jeers still have to be directed at St Mary's Seminary and Roland Springs which had not cleared their sidewalks, forcing pedestrians to walk in increasingly busy streets. Half credit goes to MT Bank, which cleared the southern half of their sidewalks leading up to their entrance and ATM but not the northern half adjoining Roland Park public school. I guess that the bank executives only got half of their bonuses this year. Many institutions and homeowners on Roland Avenue north of Northern Parkway had also not cleared their sidewalks, despite often having cleared their driveways or paths to their front doors. I guess they do not care much about pedestrians in the “far north”. The one exception was the Columiere Jesuits, who did a great job with their extensive sidewalks. Roland Park North and the First Christian Church could take a good lesson from their example.
Thanks to the many neighbors who submitted pictures and comments. Let’s hope that this is the last of snow pictures for a while.
