My father, Charles McCann, is pictured with the New York group of the 56th Signal Battalion. Again, my thanks to you for perserving and displaying this group of American heroes. Wow! Just found a photo including my dad, Joseph Waldman, on page 8 with the motor vehicle group. I have a group photo of the 56th signal battalion in Jackson, S.C. 1941 and a box of letters he received postmarked Belfast, Taunton, England and Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. My wonderful aunt was stationed at Ft. Jackson as an Army Nurse in WWII. in March 1944, she volunteered for over-sea duty with the 39th Field Hospital. She went to England and prepared for D-Day. She landed on Omaha Beach soon after D-Day and served in the Battle of Normandy, Central Europe and Battle of the Bulge with the 39th Field Hospital. I can provide a picture.

I have a group of nine watercolor caricatures painted by my late father-in-law George T. Hilliard, who was called "Frenchy" by his comrades in Company C. I'd like to get them to a collector or to the families of the men depicted. The caricatures are titled with the following names or nicknames: The "Bat," Listrom, Joe "Liebchen" Norwood, "Oscar," "Swampy," "No Mail" Tremper, Wally, and "Witch Doctor" "Angel" Jr. There is also an untitled caricature of a man typing up a duty roster. Please let me know if you are a family member or know of someone who would appreciate having these paintings.

I am the son of John O. Horne of Haverhill, MA who served in the Signal Corps as a Cryptographer in WWII. I would appreciate and information and photos from his time in the European Theater.

All I know about my great uncle is that he was declared MIA on January 3rd 1945 in Belgium His name was Cpl. Richard Watkins of Zanesville,OH. I would really appreciate it if anyone had pics or knew him. He also had a brother Zeb Watkins who was a POW but was released and passed away several years later of a heart attack. Thanks so much!

My mother, Marjorie Piper French was a major, in-charge of 150 nurses, at the Musgrove Hospital, Taunton, England during WWII. She was a marvelous woman. I have pictures of her and other nurses and activities at the hospital during the war if anyone is interested.

May 24th, 2013 Tony De Maria Pfc 56th Signal Battalion passed away. My dad arrived at Woodland Camp, Lurgan Ireland Sept. 4th, 1942, traveled on the James I McKay transport ship before arriving France with company B and traveled 1305 road miles before leaving from Pilson, Czechoslovakia May 8th, 1945. My grandfather was major Charles Leith Munson, Md. I have inherited his war chest of information down to the inventory of bedpans. He died in1968 before I was born so I only have this information about him. Does anyone remember him? Can you tell me a story? Amy Munson

Maria Gatz and Michael Salamone: My mother served in the Army Nurse Corps with the 2nd Evac Hospital. She graduated from the St. Luke's nursing school in October of 1941. Ms. Maria Gatz, what was the name of your father-in-law? My mom was 2nd Lieut. Ann Slocum. She was a nurse anesthetist and worked in the operating room.

What a great site. Remo (Ray) Florio was my uncle and a Class A guy. Unfortunately he just died this past week. I would have to say the smile he has in these photos is the same smile he had on his face his entire life. I have learned more about his service in the past week from his children and this site than I knew when he was alive, and he was Class A before I knew of his WW2 service. May he rest in peace.

My father in law was part of the 2nd evac hospital unit. He past away last year at the age of 93. We live in Chicago. Every year we still get together with the remaining surviving Vets and there families in Sept. I have made up a booklet with stories and pictures.If anyone has anything that you would care to add please contact me for this years reunion. Do you have any photos of the 2nd evacuation hospital. My father Lawrence F. Salamone (Boston, Mass) was with that group. They were also knows as the St. Lukes unit since many came from St. Lukes Hospital New York.

anyone having any information on T/5 Walter J.Fullbright,KIA,Dec.17,1944 in Eupen,Belium,during The Battle of The Bulge. He was with Archie Lewandowski,Bob Balsley,John LaTorri,Floyd Miller,John Weggit,Lou Nizzere,Blair Haggerty,Robert Pond,George Shapiro,Joseph Guralnick when he was killed.He was killed by a German Paratrooper. Thank you for posting Gene's photos. The V Corp telegram was probably folded up in Gene's wallet since 1945 and was a great surprise to the family to find this object. Gene always enjoyed attending the 56th Signal Battalion reunions. Thanks to all of the members of the 56th for "getting the message through" and their service.

My father was with the 5th Evacuation Hospital at Eupon, Belgium during the Bulge. I have photos of his Ambulance. I have his safe driving document for 50,000 miles without an accident in the ETO. I have a photo of Marlina Detrick on a street with a nurse. He was sleeping in Bastogne in a celler and was told to leave quickly one morning. Thanks for the WEB site. Pete

Bob, Many thanks to you, once again, for keeping the memory of my grandfather (P.Costea [OH]) and his many compatriots alive through these photos! Today is the 5th anniversary of his wife, sons and grandsons no longer being able to say, "Thank you" in person. Your web page is truly a tribute to their efforts and testament to the original vision of the founder of the world-wide-web; that we be able to share information and interactively learn a story by linking all of the details together. The full story may never be told again in complete detail, but if a picture is worth a thousand words then we currently have ninety-eight thousand of them right here! That's a volume to me! After WWII my grandfather married Evelyn and had two sons, Dennis and Panfil Jr. He was an iron worker for years until a back injury forced a change of occupations. He then worked in muncipal government as a residential building inspector, a job he went on to retire from. His incredible attention to detail and refusal to accept poor quality work probably stems back to his U.S. Army basic training and experiences that followed. Thanks again!

thanks I see my dad in those pictures soo young they were, he still alive 87 today and a POW as well. They put up with alot along with the deperssion a few years before the war. mike

Bob, Although I have been out of the Army for over a decade the only effective comment I can make is I Salute you and your efforts. I wish all could see the photos you have presented her they have been more effecitve than any movie or doccumentry I've seen. I am a Parmedic (23 yrs as a paramedic and a total of over 33 years in Emergency Medical Fieldthe field) and was a medic in the Army. I found all of your Photos and doccuments interesting, informative, appropriate and emotionally and Historically important. Interesting, the photo that hit me the hardest in all of the ablums [1 through 6]is the one of you and your wife with your infant daughter. This is a part of Military life most do not comprehend. Again, I SALUTE you and of course all that were involved with you in this project and in WWII. Please consider having the originals preserved in a way others may see them 10, 20, 50 or more years from now. Thank you for your efforts and continue your Project.
