While staying for a brief time in the countryside village of Miyoshi, I would often get bored and find myself wandering aimlessly outside with my camera in hand. One of these days, for no apparent reason, I set up my camera on a railroad track in order to snap the self-portrait on the right, using the self-timer. About a day or two later, before leaving Miyoshi shortly after New Year's, I recieved the postcard on the left from my mother, back in America. "That was nice of her," I thought, but didn't really think anything significant of it beyond that......that is, until I happened to develop this particular roll of film.
