This group of about 100 cormorants were part of an estimated 500+ cormorants which were swimming, diving and flying over the surface of Shoreline Lake while pursuing fish. As the flock of birds moved towards a shoreline, a large group of Snowy and Great Egrets would fly to that shoreline in preparation for grabbing any of the panicked fish which came too close to shore while trying to escape the cormorants. As the direction of the cormorants shifted, the egrets would fly off towards the appropriate shoreline to once again put themselves in a position of advantage. The cormorants which found themselves at the end of the group would periodically fly forward to put themselves at the front of the swimming cormorants, thereby gaining a better chance of catching fish. During this pursuit by the cormorants, the gulls were actively trying to steal fish from the successful cormorants and Brown Pelicans were diving into balls of fish they could see at the surface of the water. Quite an interesting spectacle.
