These bugs are amazing! Here in parts of northern Ky., we are in the beginning of the invasion of Brood X. According to experts, the count is in the millions right now. In a few weeks, we will be in the BILLIONS!
I will continue to add to this gallery throughout the occupation.
The occupation is near the end. The noise level is now bearable, and one can mow the lawn without having 30-40 cicadas hitch a ride on one's clothing. I'm still trying to catch one in flight that's actually in focus.
6/20/04 - The invasion has come to an end. As you look at the photos you will see that I did not catch one in flight. Oh well, maybe in 2008, when the 13 year cicadas arrive, my photographic skills will have improved enough to capture a flying red/orange-eyed bug. I can only hope. Until then, I suppose I could practice with birds and bees.
