Day 2 - Ivan Aftermath in Grenada

The morning after IVAN's attack most SGU students were up by 8am and walking around in a daze & stupor. People were silent and all you heard were digital cameras and their shutters. Within hours of the initial shock, most students bound together and helped cleanup the wreck & tried to put this ordeal behind them.
Special personal note: to those students that did not help in any volunteering or cleanup, i hope you never return to this wonderful island & this amazing school, you do not deserve to be physicians because you clearly don't care for anything but yourselves. goodluck trying to help others when you refused to help our school.

FACTS: 60,000 grenadians lost their homes. The island's population is roughly: 90,000. 90% of the homes were damaged or destroyed. My pics only depict the on-campus housing & the True Blue campus. In all honesty most of the oncampus dorms were ok, just flooding & broken windows .... THE BRUTE OF THE DAMAGE was OFF CAMPUS & REST OF GRENADA ... no amount of Pictures will describe the severity of the emotional & physical loss & damage inflicted by Ivan the Terrible Hurricane.

I hope you all made it home safely to your families. I did, but I am feeling so much regret, that I didn't stay longer and help more. I was in the undergraduate program which constisted of mostly grenadian students and teachers. I pray for them everyday and I hope everyone else is, they need it. They can't just leave like us. I also was wandering if anybody knows if the farm animals were okay. I have an infected foot after working on the farm for hours getting them untangled from debris, getting food and water for them and consoling them. Well I heard a rumor that they were all slaughtered is this true anybody? contact me at derjil@sgu.edu Thanks Jill D.

Amazing picutres. heartbreaking. Thank you to all sgu folks who are helping out the local population. And THANK YOU to the Grenadians who we've heard stayed to help SGU students in spite of the complete uprooting of their own lives. Above and beyond and wont be forgotten.

I am not commenting on the students that left ... hell i left but i was commenting on the students that did not help do ANYTHING immediately after the day of the storm & then started to BITCH ABOUT SGU, the ADMIN etc... MOST STUDENTS LEFT, there's nothing wrong with that. have a nice day sir.

Thank you for the documentation of the storm and the sequelae of Grenada's worst tragedy in my lifetime. I am heartbroken to see the island of Grenada so utterly devastated.

I echo your sentiments towards the vacating medical students - when you are part of a community (as SGU students are in Grenada), you have an obligation to help that community in its time of need. I'm a medical student in NYC, and never before have I been more proud of my classmates as when every student pitched a hand in towards relief efforts after 9/11, despite personal distress or safety fears, or when we reached out to our Dominican neighbors after many from their community were lost in Flight 587. Future physicians, indeed, will have to become accustomed to personal sacrifice in their lifelong endeavor to help others.

I commend you for dedicating yourself both to your school and to your beautiful island. And I wish everyone at SGU the best of luck in restoring their school, and their island, during this undoubtedly extremely trying and sad time.

I think you shouldn't be so harsh in your judgment of students who left. You have no right to judge the personal decisions of others. You have no idea what personal circumstances surrounded their reasons to leave the island.

Great documentation of the storm. It's kind of "eerie" to look at these pics because where I sit we're in the crosshairs of this same system. I'll be shooting pics during and after as well.
