Glad you got a second "lifer" and another great image. I too have seen bad behavior from both birders and photographers at times and am glad this wasn't one of those times.

Good on you Chris. I and a few others got there about an hour after everyone else had left. I found the bird simply foraging for food amongst some Geese and Mallards. When I got to the spot you described, the Geese and Ducks left, but the Avocet just kept on feeding and doing an occasional wing stretch, sometimes coming to within 15 meter from where we were standing. It paid us no heed at all, When we left, it was still feeding,
