I had a lucky and somewhat unexpected encounter with a Great Egret this morning while heading downtown by bike. It was fishing by the pathway not far from the center of the city and didn't seem to be bothered by people going by or me stopping to take a few photos. It worked its way along the shoreline for a few hundred meters, sometimes flying a short distance to get around rocks or geese, and then took off further towards downtown when it reached the deeper, rougher waters.
