American Redstart (female) on Nest

This redstart has built her nest in a very conspicuous spot along a very well used public trail. It didn't seem to matter that anyone was watching, that dogs and people were walking by, this bird kept at it. A couple years ago I saw another redstart nest built right beside a very well used public trail like this. I have no idea if that nest was successful. It will be interesting to see what happens with this nest.

Below, a female cardinal sits on a well-hidden nest on a spruce bough above eye level. This nest is also in a well used area but high enough and hidden enough that very few people will find it. [update: I received word from Linda H that this cardinal nest has been destroyed. If it had to be destroyed I'm hoping it was weather related and not people related. It could have happened during the little storm system that moved through Wednesday morning.]

They don't waste time, do they! These warblers are barely back and they are nesting. Hope she survives the public ordeal! I love both shots, but particularly the one of the cardinal on her nest.
