Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui)

There was a mass emergence of this species here last week. I had at least 11 of them in a patch of loosestrife including 7 all in my same field of view. There were lots of reports from other areas too. I had never seen numbers of this species like that before.

It is certainly the first time in a long time I've seen so many painted ladies at one time. We all seem to be photographing them, but our photo is outstanding. Wow! V
