This print could have been left by a Northern Flying Squirrel according to more experienced trackers who I shared this photo with. Red squirrels and their tracks are abundant in this area, but these "different" looking squirrel prints with oval shaped drag marks were only found in two isolated areas. The other set (photographed but not well because of declining light) were very small and almost struck me as being too small for a red squirrel. Until now I had never encountered red squirrel prints like this. Of course, a red squirrel dragging its feet could have left this print, but if that were the case then I'd expect to see many more examples like this.
