The beaver at Mud Lake is clearly still around, and busy! I was amazed at how many trees have been girdled by the beaver since my last visit a few weeks ago! I looked around for prints. I found none, but the damage shown here and a lot of the other damage I saw was recent; none of it was present on my last visit. I only recall seeing the beaver here once, but I have heard it slapping its tail a few times. A tail slap from a beaver when you are standing nearby and unaware one is around is certainly startling! I can see how it is an effective startle and escape defense against predators!
