Dear Guest :)
In case you come back to view lol, thought I would write you a message here.
I didn't think to visit Nockamixon this weekend. I've been there when it was iced over before. Maybe I'll go on Monday :) I heard a lot of the creeks are frozen solid.
Wonder if the river is really icy?
Guest 31-Jan-2010 02:55
Spectacular work, Ruth. We're Bucks County newbies living all week in NYC coming out here weekends. I've been working on some shots of Nockamixon iced over and partly iced over. It's cold but we're going to walk over there tomorrow, hoping for some happy light. I've bookmarked your site and will come back to see more. Ain't we lucky?

Beautiful work! Thoroughly enjoyed Bucks County series, as am from that area. Did you ever photo Bowman's Tower views? They are gorgeous in the fall of the year.

Ruth,
Thanks for your kind words on my images. Your work is outstanding and captures the beauty of Bucks County. I also live in Bucks County and you have inspired me to get out more to some of those beautiful scenic places and start shooting.

Beautiful pictures. I spent quite a lot of time in Quakertown and on the Tochickon Creek as I was growing up about 45 years ago. It was wonderful finding your pictures especially the picture of Sheard's Mill Bridge. My sister and I would walk to the bridge from our house a few miles away. Do you have any of the old mill next to the bridge? Thanks for bringing back such pleasant memories.

Hi Ruth! It is always a pleasure to drop by your site; you do great work and it is great seeing my old neighborhood on occasion!

Have you been uploading to and microstock sites yet? If not, you could do very well with your images. Check out Dreamstime.com and BigstockPhotos.com That is where I load up some of my work.

Keep shooting and enjoying nature! I'll be heading to Tucson, AZ for a shoot soon. Will be posting some new stuff after the trip.

Hi, Ruth,

Thank you very much for your nice comments on my pbase gallery. I consider this being a big encouragement since it came from a great photographer like you.

I visited both you pbase galleries and your own website. You have captured many magic moments. I particularly like the fall colors and the magnificent lighting in your photos. It is also very happy to realize, through your work, I am living in such a beautiful state, PA.

Hope to see more great work from you.

Hi Ruth, I've just looked at all your images. I couldn't pull myself away. You are the queen of fall photography. I love it. Your photos look like paintings. They are soooo lovely. You should give workshops in your area. People would pay lot of money to be able to see and photograph some of your picturesque country side. Just awesome.

Good Evening Ruth, I too live in beautiful Bucks. Your images are simply amazing. Keep up the great work. I'm new to Pbase, learning the ropes. Your galleries are all class. Makes me want to jump out of bed to capture the magic of the morning in our backyard. I read somewhere that almost anyone can take a great picture in Yosemite, but the masters can capture the magnificent in their own back yard....

Ruth,
Thanks for your comments...well, yours is one of the best sites I have seen on Pbase. You have exceptional quality. I am striving to get to your level, but taking it one step at a time. I have only been at this for a year and a bit. I started out only photographing wildlife and have moved on to landscapes, which is what I like best.

As for where Ohiopyle State Park is located, it is southeast of Pittsburgh near the town of Uniontown. It is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the trip. I have several shots from there. There is the Youghioheny (sp?) River which is pretty awesome and Cucumber Falls, which is spectacular as well. I did not do justice to it as I did not have my new landscape lens at the time, so I struggled to get the shots I did get.

Also, was not sure exactly how to implement your suggestions on the one photo as I only have Elements 2.0. but will ask more questions later. Thanks for your input and visit.

Ruth,
I stumbled onto your galleries for the first time tonight. What wonderful landscape images you have...really stunning. I really admire the time you must spend getting out for the right lighting/conditions to get these spots. You don't land that many great shots by just stumbling across them. How much prep work do you do on a location? Just great work!

Ruth, Thank you very much for visiting my galleries. I appreciate your kind words and your feedback is very valuable to me. After you mentioned the comment about the sticks distracting from the houses in the background of one of my pictures, I noticed it also, so I will be cropping them out of the shot. Thank you again. Also, I did not know any of people that I took photographs of, (with the exception of the people in the foreground of this photohttp://www.pbase.com/dmajfsharp/image/62415752. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

Also, I love your landscapes, how long have you been a photographer, and how do you get such depth of field to your photoss?

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my galleries. Its always nice to meet a fellow Pennsylvania photographer! Your galleries are very, very well done. If you're interested in shooting our state's waterfalls, I would highly recommend you purchase Scott Brown's book "Pennsylvania Waterfalls: A Hiker's and Photographer's guide" Its inexpensive and will take you right to the base of over 120 waterfalls in the state. In general, just a bit north and west of you is loaded with them. Sullivan, Luzerne and Pike counties were three places I did a lot of my shooting on a 7 day waterfall photography trip I completed a few weeks ago, but I've also done some near Pittsburgh on the other end of the state. (I live near Erie.) After a good rain this fall, head to Ricketts Glen in Sullivan County. You won't go home disappointed, I promise.

Take care and I will add you to my favorites because you can't meet too many PA shooters!

Wow, am I ever glad you visited my site and left a comment becasue it helped me discover your site as well. Your photos are amazing, beautiful, and inspire me to spend more time with my 20D... I noticed that someone posted a comment regarding Antelope Slot Canyons. This was actually the first thing I shot with my 20D and it was an amazing experience. I went in March, which is the early season, and had the entire lower canyon to myself and only had three others in the upper with me. It was such a powerful place that I made two more visits later that same month. If you have any questions drop me an email. My Antelope pics are posted athttp://www.pbase.com/petecampbell/antelope (Oh yeah, that 'brave soul' at the Grand Canyon was me:) Self portrait (tripod mounted with a 20 minute timer set.) All the best, Pete

Hi Ruth
Thanks for all your kind comments in my galleries, i have only just come across yours a few days ago, so i will be back shortly to view some more.
To answer your question regarding Antelope Canyon, yes, the light levels are low, light is provided by narrow opening at the top of the canyon, tripods are allowed, good job really as exposures can range from 5-30 secs depending where you are, there are some sections that are very dark. But for me it's a magical place, next time i am over i want to visit Lower Antelope, its a lot deeper, even lower light levels, but doesn't have as many photographers all trying to get a shot. Must have been around 100 persons in the canyon at the time when i was there, it can bequite difficult at times to get the shot you want without some bodily part being in the viewfinder.

Ruth, thank you for the nice comments on my aurora images. Alot of people are quite surprised when they see that these images were taken in Iowa. You can see them there in Pennsylvania just as well as we are about the same latitude. The trick is knowing exactly when the lights are out and then having the passion and desire to get up in the middle of the night and go out to a dark spot and shoot them :) Take care and best wishes! Ruth, I do not know where my other post went, but I thought it very necessary to tell you that your galleries are really fine art. I just got finished perusing Zane Paxton's fine galleries and thought that it would be hard for other photographers to live up to his works, but I was dead wrong. Your colors, composition and exposures are spot-on. Keep up the great work. You also are an inspiration to all who are lucky enough to view and appreciate your images.

thank you do Ruth for your comments sympathetic nerves, I believe to understand that your grandmother comes from France you thus have French roots? the castle that you see on this image is in fact only one tower which protected the entry from the port of the city of the Small rock, that is in the south - west coast Atlantique it is at 2 hours of car of at home the town of Bordeaux. The interesting castles are not far from Paris, Versailles, Chambord, Vaux Vicompte if you come to visit France it should not be missed, you can have further information on the Web cordial greetings Mario

Hi Ruth,
Thanks for visiting my Pennsylvania gallery, and for all your nice comments! It's nice to meet a fellow PA photographer! I lived in Chester County (Downingtown) for a short while, but all those images are 35mm slides, which have not been scanned yet! ;-) Your work is absolutely fabulous! It's great to see such beautiful shots of areas of PA that I've never seen! I'm envious of your proximity to the ocean too! ;-) I will definitely be checking back to see more of your photography!! And btw, spring is the best time for Hocking Hills, Ohio! When the snow melts, the waterfalls are soo much nicer!! Though fall is beautiful too! Definitely worth the trip!
Thanks for stopping by and leading me to your galleries!

Hi Ruth,

Your gallery has really come along here on pBase, and is very well organized. Plus, the images are great! You've made very nice comments on my gallery - and asked where the red fence on the river looking into Lambertville was. It is (was) right behind the Bucks County Playhouse, looking at the free bridge into Lambertville.

Kevin

Ruth, thank you for the nice comments on my images. I've just viewed many of your's and I can see why you might be drawn to mine. In some ways, I think, we may see the world in a similar way. Me probably a little more in b&w though..... The gallery of old family photos, as you mentioned, is extremely important to myself and my family. The images, themselves, became very important this past week as we had a death in the family. I was able to share images with a PC projector at the wake for my brother and it meant a lot to everyone. Isn't that the power of photography? Whether doing something like this or giving photos back to someone and seeing the giant smile on a face. Isn't that great? I wish you the best with all of your photographic endeavors. Please take care. Daniel.

Ruth:
Thanks for your kind comments on my photos. I hope you get some great photos of New England in October. The bridge in Somesville on Mount Desert Island is on the right as you enter the village (The ocean is on the left coming from the mainland).

Ruth, you have some of the most beautiful images I've seen. Granted, you live in a very photogenic area, but the way you portray it is exceptional. Thanks for posting these, I'll be a regular visitor from now on.

Thanks for having a look at my galleries too.

Hello Ruth,

Thanks for having a look at my gallery in pBase. I've bookmarked yours to look at later when I'm at home. Very nice galleries, I love the saturated colors.
In answer to your comments, yes, the one image you commented on IS in Stockdon, N.J., not in Bucks, so I'll have to move that! The bridge you mention is actually the free bridge between Lambertville and New Hope. The canal pic was taken before the floods, although I haven't been on that part of the canal since the floods. I usually get out early and walk and try to take and re-take those images around town (New Hope), so I regularly walk the bridge over the Delaware.
Best Regards,
Kevin
