An organizational meeting for a Southwest Wisconsin automobile club was held on November 18, 1980. The following month, December 16, 1980, the first official meeting of the club was held with 35 members attending. Initially the club was called the "GOOD TIMES CAR CLUB", but at the March 1981 meeting the name was changed to the "SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN AUTO CLUB, INC.", with the motto: "Let the good times roll". The charter membership cut-off date was on March 24, 1981, when a club picture of 47 of the 73 Charter Members was taken. The club has been involved in many activites over the years in addition to hosting the annual car show and model car show. Some of these activities include tours, showing of cars on Main Street, annual banquets, Christmas parties, Halloween cruises, gambling trips (not just driving your old car), and slide and video presentations of the events of the year. The club has also presented student scholarships, and makes annual donations to worthy causes, such as Badger Camp. The club always has meals with the monthly meeting -- which some club members feel attracts the 40 to 50 members who frequently attend meetings of this very active and congenial club.
