This was the greatest snowfall for the month of December in Oklahoma History. It started in the afternoon of Christmas Eve 2009 and snowed heavily with winds up to 55 MPH. By nightfall all of the Interstate Highways that run through Oklahoma City were closed including I-35, I-40, and I-44. The Turnpikes that are in or go into Oklahoma City were also closed. There was one 50 car pile-up. National Guardsmen had to go onto the Highways to pick up stranded motorists. Will Rogers World Airport recorded 14" of snow.
