Noctillucent Clouds. These are the results from my first imaging session of these clouds. My interest was sparked by last months edition of the Sky at Night Magazine. The NLC clouds seemed to be a rare, beautiful sight to behold, and I set about sky watching, every night as the sun dropped below 6degrees below the horizon, with fingers ever crossed. On the 9th July I was lucky enough to be finishing at work at 2100UTC, and as I left the building for the car park, I gazed up at the very clear sky and caught a glimpse of a feint wisp of cloud that looked very promising. My drive home took 35 minues, and over that time I watched (out of the corner of my eye!) the wisps becoming stronger and wider as the sun dipped lower. After running into the house to grab the camera and tripod and making a swift excuse to the wife, I jumped into the car and drove up the nearest hill that gave me unrestricted views to the North and North West. These are the images that resulted. Difficult to get the manual focus just right, but each image taken at ISO 200, widest apeture and 30secs exposure. Some images deleted due to focus issues, and the last two images here tinkered with just slightly to bring out the fibrous nature of the clouds. The clouds became strong at about 2145UTC, and the first photo (Image 2) was taken against a backdrop of brighter sky. Later images taken at about 2200UTC from the hill facing NW. Images 4 and 5 are the ones in which I have adjusted contrast, brightness and a little saturation. Hope you enjoy!
