Molson Ghost Tractor

Molson Washington

On our way home from the Palouse region of Washington, we stopped in at Molson. Molson is located 15
miles outside of Oroville WA which is just south of the US/Canada border in central Washington.
Thirty seven people still call this little ghost town home and while it's no Bodie, it still has
quite a few buildings and a plethora of equipment/artifacts to see and photograph. This old tractor
is located amongst a collection of old buildings and equipment in the part of town called "Old
Molson"--what I really appreciated was that we were allowed and encouraged to explore inside the
buildings. There is lots of old artifacts--equipment, furniture, utensils left inside as if simplly
abandoned there decades ago. For more information on this ghost town and it's colorful history see
this link: http://www.ghosttownsusa.com/molson.htm

For this shot of an old tractor in "Old Molson", I wanted to frame it against the hills in the
distance. There was a lot of other equipment in front and behind it, so my compositional options were
limited. As a result, I ended up with a very centered composition I was less than happy with. On
reviewing this image on my computer, though, I liked how the symmetry of the shot, when converted to
B&W, reminded me of many of the old photos I've seen. I added a gothic glow to further enhance the
old feel of this image.

Image was converted to B&W in Fred Miranda's B&W Workflow Pro, it was then resized, sharpened, and
Feivel's gothic glow action applied. A shadow adjustment was then made to bring back some of the
details lost when the gg was applied.
