On our way to Monument Valley, it was mostly cloudy and threatened rain. We were late, at least,
according to our tourist information. The AAA book said the Monument Valley Tribal Park closed at 5:30
PM. So we drove past the entrance to the tribal park to get the 'lay of the land' so to speak. We
drove to the end of the valley and then doubled back. I decided we should enter the park anyway, just
to see how close we could get to the view points. We were delighted to find the park was still open!
So just after 6 PM, we pulled in. The fellow selling our our passes said "doesn't look like very good
weather for you folks tonight" or something like that. We didn't mind. We set up our tripods right
there next to the parking lot and began shooting. The sun was heading to the horizon when we were
packing up our gear and I noticed an opening in the clouds, just before the horizon. We quickly set up
our tripods again in time to see this wonderful orange light spill out over the monuments.
