A synagogue (Petah Tikva, April 2006)
There is a big synagogue in the center of Petah Tikva. Around it swirls the city with its predominantly Russian speech. The magnificent synagogue looks abandoned and useless. Yet, there are people who need it. It seems like they stepped towards us from the 1880, when a group of Haredim from Jerusalem founded this settlement amid swamps. They spoke Russian, and named the new settlement "The Gates of Hope".
