The Star of David with a hat in the center is the symbol of the Czech Jews. Hitler was not the first to force Jews to wear a symbol denoting their religion. That practice actually dates back to the Fourth Laterin Council in the 13th Century when Pope Innocence ordered all Jews to be expelled from Christian communities. Jews were forced to wear some symbol - typically a yellow hat - to identify their religion.
